A FAB Research Live Webinar and Q&A session
-Â with David Rex, RD and Dr Alex Richardson
Almost every day, we hear that behaviour, learning or mental health problems in children and adolescents are at record levels - and that our education and health services are overwhelmed trying to meet the needs of those affected.
In addition to developmental conditions like ADHD, the autism spectrum, dyslexia and dyspraxia / DCD, many more children - and their families and teachers - are struggling to deal with everyday difficulties, or serious issues, with mood and anxiety, behaviour, learning - and sleep.
Mental and physical health go together - but although children's diets are recognised as contributing to conditions like obesity, diabetes and other physical health problems, little or no attention is usually paid to the effects of nutrition - what children eat and drink - on how they feel, think and behave.Â
Find out from two of the UK's leading experts in this area:
- what the latest scientific evidence shows about the links between children's food and their mental health, wellbeing and performance
- what works (and what doesn't) when it comes to practical ways in which parents, teachers and other professionals, and policymakers can help to improve children's ability to make healthier food choices.Â

Dr Alex Richardson
Founder of FAB Research, world-renowned researcher, author, and educator.
Alex Richardson PhD, PGCE, FRSA is one of the world's leading experts in nutritional neuroscience, with 100+ publications including pioneering clinical trials. Her research centres on the importance of nutrition for neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions like ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Depression, Bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia; and their links with allergies, immune disorders and gut health as well as normal individual differences in brain development and functioning.
Her book for parents and professionals, "They Are What You Feed Them" explains how children’s diets can - and do - affect their behaviour, learning and mood, and offers easy-to-follow, practical and evidence-based advice.
Learn what the latest evidence shows about:
- The importance of good nutrition for brain development and function - and the key brain nutrients most likely to be lacking from the diets of children and adults in the UK, US and other developed countries today
- How children's food choices affect their mental, as well as their physical, health and wellbeing - and vice versa.Â
- The links between diet and common developmental conditions such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and the Autism spectrum, as well as Anxiety, Depression and related conditions - including a summary of relevant findings from clinical trialsÂ
- How specific dietary changes can affect sleep - and vice versa - and how this may relate to mood, behaviour and learning difficulties in many children Â
- Why children and young people eat the way they do; and which factors parents, teachers and other professionals can most effectively influence
- Which strategies and tactics work best to improve children's food preferences and choices - and which ones are likely to be counter-productive.
- What kind of improvements can be achieved in practice, and how children can be motivated and empowered to make better judgements for themselves about how food affects the way they feel, think and behave.

Between them, speakers David Rex and Alex Richardson have a wealth of clinical, educational and research experience and knowledge to share on the role that food and diet play in shaping children's mental health and development - for better or for worse.
In this webinar, they will explain why nutrition and diet are always important factors to consider in the management of 'child behaviour and learning difficulties' - whether or not these may involve specific developmental or mental health conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, among others.
In addition to receiving a state-of-the-art summary of key findings from relevant research, attendees will also learn about how that evidence can be translated into effective practice - at home, in schools and other educational settings, and as a supportive adjunct to clinical health care and related services.Â
Discussion will also include reference to cost-effective ways that governments and public health agencies can help mitigate and reverse the current 'mental health crisis' and its negative impact on wider society. Â
Don't miss this chance to hear from these leading experts, and get your own questions answered.
All proceeds from this event will go to Food And Behaviour (FAB) Research to support its work Registered Charity No: SC034604, Company No: SC 253448. www.fabresearch.org
